Born at Toodyay, Western Australia.[1] He was living at Rose Cottage in Toodyay (with his mother; his father was deceased) when he enlisted on 18 January 1916.[1] At that time he was aged 38 and 7 months, and was working as a Telephone Linesman.[1] His military service number was 1646.[1] He was killed in France on 3 September 1916.[1]
