Born at Toodyay, Western Australia.[1] He was living at Rose Cottage in Toodyay (with his mother; his father was deceased) when he enlisted on 18 January 1916.[1] At that time he was aged 38 and 7 months, 5'6½", weighed 140 lbs, and was working as a Telephone Linesman.[1] He had brown eyes and black hair.[1] Joined 51st Battalion AIF, leaving Australia on 17 April 1916 on board HMAT A60 Aeneas. His military service number was 1646.[1] Departed Alexandria 6 June, arrived Plymouth 16 June. He was killed in France on 3 September 1916.[1]
