Eldest of the three brothers.[1] A cotton mill owner in Glasgow.[1] Fairly well-off, and a prominent member of the Freemasons, but "gave great scope to the social side of his nature; a fact that did not tend to his continued prosperity, or the betterment of his life."[1] Died young with no issue.[1]
