My dear Mrs Hester,

I was very much pleased to receive your kind and welcome letter. I also received a letter from my dear girl saying she had arrived safely at the Park for which I was very thankful.

I miss my girl very much and feel very loney [sic] without her, but I know the trip South will do her a great deal of good, but it will be one of the happiest moments of my life when I meet her again. I am so thankful that my dear little boy’s eyes are better, I have been very anxious about them.

I was very sorry to hear that Eva has been so ill, I am very thankful that she has got over her trouble and is recovering. With this letter I have sent Mr Hester a book (Stanleys Darkest Africa) I hope he will receive it safely, please ask him to accept it from me as a slight token of the great effection [sic] I have for him.

I am looking forward very much to the time when I shall see you all again I spent a very happy time at the Park and look back at it with the greatest pleasure.

Flora sent me one of Walters photos. I think they are taken splendidly and I was so glad to get it.

I shall be so happy when I meet my dearest Flora again, for I care so much for her, and she is everything that a good wife can be and I try to be worthy of her, for a wife like Florrie is the greatest blessing that Providence can bestow upon a man and I have a great deal to be thankful for.

Ted is going south by this steamer. I am very glad he is going for it will do him a great deal of good.

I must now conclude this short letter with best love to yourself, Mr Hester and all.

I remain

My dear mother

Your affectionate Son
