May 6th
My dear Aubrey
Arent I a lazy dog not having written you before now, but the spirit has been willing so on – I was glad to get yr long letter. We got home by the Charm about the 25th of April & find every thing jolly dry ?So ?(first) I do hope we get some rain soon. Alick has ?(worried) nearly all the ?(sleek) off his ?(frame) I haven’t seen him so thin for a long time, but somehow I have hopes of rain yet. How are you off for ? rain & feed. I’ve had a good holiday south. Only stayed in Guildford made a couple of attempts to get to Busselton but only Enid got there she is in love with little Constance I did hope Mrs Aubrey would have been up to Perth but no such luck then we heard she was sure to be on the Charm, I wonder if she will land at Rne (Roebourne) or Hedland when she comes I

had a few lines from her last mail.
How are you getting on. Do hope things are getting paid up satisfactory for yr sake & hers & the little kiddie, you would love to have her with you. Enid says she is such a loving little thing. We all miss John very much Saturdays seem as if something is wanting --- A bit of news. Henry bought a ?(small) property about 2 miles out of Guildford, it belonged to Julius Brockman, such a nice place we intend to make it our home & leave Alick to ?(run) this show. That is if the fates are going to be good & give us the much needed rain or other wise things will only be middling – The property consists of about 30 acres, good fruit trees vineyard & very nice house flower garden lovely roses. Stables out building & everything to make a real nice place & its in a pretty neighbourhood “Caversham” – I’m trying to get the garden here under way but things don’t grow well when the rain has not been. We are doing

away with all the turkeys and duck they are awful creatures for feeding eat me out of house & home – Henry bought up some very good young ewes & rams. They only want the rain & they would be a great improvement to the flock, I see by the paper you got a good price for yr wool. You only want a few hundred bales.
On our way up we stoped (sic) at ?(Arrino) & Sam met us & took us out to his place ?(Wooltana) a jolly dry shop. & talk about work. wells ? don’t ? what work is, It looks to be all work & jolly little profit. 27 miles from the railway – no goods to me in these little “how do ye do’s” – ?(piece) from the Arcadians when the English man file amongst them they put him down the Well of Truth & up he comes in little short pants. It was very good – they with Minnie & Sam are as poor as, I’m just thinking what, but can’t find a comparrisin (sic) – Aunt Gert & Uncle Fred are just the same the latter looking very aged – Now I must

wind up. Ernest & family are on the Minderoo. Their last baby is a bonny kid & so good. Saw old Eva had a yarn ? & ?(joy). She & her ?(two) kiddies spent an afternoon with me in Perth. But she looks wretched & the youngsters nearly as bad. Ernest took her out a few times in the car, she wants to come away for a real good change & rest.
Now old chap I realy (sic) must say good bye. Henry & Alick wish to be kindy (sic) remembered & love from Enid &
Yrs as ever
