Dear Aunt Hannah

You will I am sure be glad to see my handwriting after the fire of affliction I have passed through. God has indeed been merciful in raising me up again but Oh! what have I not passed through! You who know a great deal of sorrow can sympathise deeply with me I know. Our little angel has gone to dwell with Jesus which is far better. The darling gave us abundant proof of her readiness to go & spoke of it several times but oh! it is hard to be without her, to miss her little bright face & her little red pinafore. I shall endeavor with God’s help to live nearer to them & make sure of meeting my angel in Heaven. I had such a heart broken letter from my dear Husband this week. The night sweet Laura died he went to bed about 10 o’clock after reading the “War Cry”. During the night he heard me cry out George, George come here, he jumped out of bed & directly his foot touched the floor he awoke. He thought no more of it until he met the Telegraph boy coming towards him & then he knew he was bringing him a death message. He said he knew it was my distracted mind operating on his altho’ he was asleep. God bless and keep him safe for me is my prayer. Aunt Fanny is far from well altho’ keeping about. Never while I live can I repay all her love & kindness to me & dear Grandma too she has been so good. All the children are in good health. Give my love to darling Joy I do so love her I hope she will be long spared to you. Hope the boys keep well. No more just now from your very loving

Kate
