Mary Hester to Mrs Hester, 19 February 1891

Buckland

Feb 19th / 91

My dear Mrs Hester

Many thanks for your nice letter I should have answered it before but till this week I have not been able to sit up to write: I think I shall soon be all right again but not being able to get out at all is so bad, next week I go to Guildford then I will be able to go for a drive very often their buggy is so easy to get into poor Mother is so anxious to see us and every week I have to tell her I think I can go next week she has been too ill herself or could have been up to see me. Baby is growing so big and fat she seems to have an unlimited appetite & fortunately I have plenty for her, the Doctor said he was quite prepared for two but fortunately for me it was not so, I don’t know what I should have done one is quite as much as I can manage, at first baby was very restless at night but is no trouble now and she sleeps better in the day too.

Godfrey will have told you all the news, I was so disappointed that he had to go home without me but it was impossible for him to stay away from home any longer. The Doctor said I was not to go for two months but hope to be well enough long before that. Baby is to be christened next week Godfrey will have told you her name I thought it would be nice to call her after my sister Maud she was so good and kind to us both when I was so bad I could not move a hand to help myself and Godfrey wanted her called Hastings after Flora, I have not heard yet whether she will stand for her Maud is to be one God mother her god children are getting numerous Mrs Madden is going to have her baby christened today and she came out here yesterday on purpose to ask Maud and Willie to stand for it they are going to have a very grand supper there tonight in honour of the event

Now I must say good bye as I have a lot of letters to write with love in which Nellie joins (she is my nurse and a very good one)

I remain

Yrs very affectionately

Mary

Please give my love to Flora and tell her she is not to go home till I come back as I want to see her and the boy and she must come and stay with us at [?Jayes]. I think my sister will be able to come down with me her husband is very [?loth] to part with her but I think he is coming round
