Obituary

Mrs G. Naismith

The many friends of Mr and Mrs C. H. Hammond, of Carnarvon, were shocked on Wednesday when the news was received that her only daughter, Ruth, (Mrs G. Naismith) had passed away suddenly late that afternoon at the Carnarvon District Hospital.

This is the second bereavement that the family has suffered in the last six months. Their elder son, Meath, who was a member of the RAAF, was killed in a flying accident in August of last year.

We join with their many friends in offering our deepest sympathy to the young husband, Mr G. Naismith, only recently discharged from the AIF, and Mr and Mrs Hammond.

As a mark of respect to the deceased, the Welcome Home Dance which was to have been held on Wednesday evening, was cancelled. Flags were flown at half mast on Public Buildings on Thursday.

The funeral of the late Mrs Naismith was held at 5 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, and was one of the largest seen in Carnarvon. Representatives from all the local Governing Bodies, Civil Servants, Planters, Pastoralists, and many others were in attendance at the services held in St Luke's Church, and at the grave side. Mr C. Quince officiated at both services. The remains of the deceased were interred in the Church of England portion of the Carnarvon Cemetery.

The Pall-Bearers were Messrs C. Brown, D. Mendelawitz, L. Marsh, J. Glass Jnr., C. R. Cornish, and T. Annear.

The deceased leaves a Widower and two small daughters.
