My own dear Fanny
I don’t know how long it is since I got a chance of a few quiet moments before 10 or 11 PM except very early in the morning. I sincerely hope & quite expect we shall all make some change before very long. George is out of work, we think he might have met E in his whims considering times are so very bad & his work so scarce just for the next two or three mos. He was making 10/- per day by bringing home the Panels. I think he is rather too headstrong sometimes his hasty marriage for example. I have good reason to think that he often regrets when things do not suit him. I long to see you & shall soon begin to count the weeks to the next holidays. I can’t tell you now how obstinate & every thing else objectionable some folks are. Thanks for your note of 12th Uncle Andertons B Day 50 yrs old. The enclosed notes from dear Dora are heart breaking to me, I was partly prepared by a few lines from her & a letter from Aunt T, only to hand yesterday, should have been here before. I want to collect my thoughts but find it impossible just now for grief & all sorts of discomforts. My dear brother Hy I little thought his end was so near or that last note of his about his boy wd be the very last. Oh! what a comfort to him it must be (& to us it is) that he can look back on a well spent good life, his was a happy union so his wife will feel her loss the greater. How soon he is following our dear sister & exactly from the same place does it not seem strange that he should be the only one of the family who could watch by her dying couch. What a blessing our dear Hy is trusting & loving our sympathizing Saviour. I can say Amen to yr sincere hopes that we may all meet our dear ones by & bye.
Pa called & delivered yr note at Mr C’s, he was out, called again & did not get an interview as Mr C had not seen the other party & was engaged but is to call in a few days. Kate sends her love & says you must forgive her for not writing, her nipples are worse again after being nearly well she has not found time to write to anyone lately. I am sadly behind with my correspondence. It is just past 10 PM & they have retired. I must take such a chance more often & should have done so only that I had to get up every morning before daylight call Geo & get his breakfast & have been & am now suffering cramp & rheumatism in hands, back &c & with that & other things cannot sleep much. George hopes he will have the Interest by this Mail, don’t settle with him till you see how yr a/c stands for it will not be easy to get anything back I think he is likely to have too many ways for his money & he is quite likely to be off to a distance perhaps in another Colony soon, I am very sorry to see him so unsettled. “The lift” he has given me is the wrong way, I do not expect much from him now but part board & plenty of work & dis-comfort. I certainly did look for very different returns for all my love & care, he thinks I have little to trouble me & that I ought to be jolly glad to be here. Don’t mention anything I say.
My dear Fanny don’t be overmuch troubled about us for I have great hopes that we shall yet be more comfortable & quiet I will enclose a note from your Aunt, don’t return it. Frances has been at home for two months & has a Baby Girl Irene Kate all well May God bless & keep my own darling Little Fanny is a bright good pet of a baby eyes like yours, nose like its mother, mouth Fathers takes plenty of notice Grand Pa & I are very fond of it & far more patient than the young folks. I must now say good night with love & prayers for your health & happiness
Your loving Mother
