My very dear Brother
How long it seems since we heard from you. I have a long letter of 14 pages from Hy & I want to send it to you but till I hear from you I fear it might be lost, I suppose Jas Turner got his letter from Hy. Poor Papa seems to be declining fast, H gives a very sad account of his health. I feel very grieved for him & quite out of heart with the state of things altogether. Next mail we shall be sure to hear from Hy & then we shall know what he is likely to do.
June 13th — since writing the above I have received yours a month old. I think they detained it on acct of the new address, in future direct Rowan St care of Mr Smith Tailor. At the same time yours from Hy arrived but not a line for me from any of them so I hope you will drop me a few words of news or interest as I feel disappointed at not hearing how our poor dear Father is, & if Ed is gone to Blackwood yet & many other items. Geo has had very bad eyes for the last 2 or 3 weeks so that he cd not sleep or rest, they are better now but very weak. He is a good deal harrassed in one way or other & the cows have not calved yet so that it is at present all out going, it is too cold for vegetables yet, but we have Potatoes, about 8 acres of Oats are sown. Geo finds he has neither land or cattle enough to do much this year & also now it is too late that his capital with the expenses of such a young & for a Farm useless family was far too small to commence with even to rent the Ground & House. I fear making this too heavy so must say more another time. I am sorry for Turner & Taylor they seem to be like ourselves. A boy 2 yrs old has just been found in a Hay Stack after being lost for 3 mos on Mosquito Creek. Do you know where Thos Turner is going to? Will you tell me if you like your things left at Cox’s or if Geo shd bring them out when he is returning empty. The children send their love.
[several words missing] I hope you will come & see us before I turn grey. I feel very anxious to know if Hy comes back or remains. I think he will stay there. Write again soon & send me the news of your black [?letter].Yr affectionate Sarah
Geo wishes you every blessing as I do.
Remember Rowan St
