LETTER No 17.
To Mrs W.M. WILSON
8a Outram St
West Perth
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Margaret my Darling,
Yesterday was a day of days my sweet, I get six letters including two from you. There were two from Mother one each from Jean & Adele & your nos 14 & 20 & yours included a copy of Rae's to you, so you see darling it sure was a big day for me. I've just read them again yours I mean dear, & alas the ones next to them was 15 & 19. Your very good to me you know Margaret, you write me so many letters & they're all so wonderful. When I come to writing to you I spend all my time reading yours instead. I love to dearest, [illegible] it takes me a long time to get a letter written when I do that.
It's great news that I've got plenty of

your letters here to read over again. I was very disappointed that I didn't bring some that you wrote to G'ton & Cunderdin with me. In the rush of those few days I just didn't think of bringing them, but on the trip over I thought of them often & wished that I had them.
When you mentioned that you had been reading my early ones again I wished again that I had yours, but I've got 12 of yours now & there's plenty of reading in them too & you don't know just what they mean to me dearest.
Thanks for sending Rae's letters, too, It's a jolly good one & I see that you mentioned to her the spot of bother with Mother. I'm so glad that you did darling, In a lot of ways Rae & I seem to have similar ideas, at least our natures or make up are similar in a lot of respects & I know that as soon as you mentioned the [illegible] bother to

her, she would understand just exactly how it was & why it was & what it was. She puts it very well when she gives the reason for it all. I can add to it a bit by saying quite definitely that Mother has never really approved of any girl that I took out with the inevitable result taht I told her very little about anyone.
I thought it would be different with you dear, because she always spoke so highly of you. I know that she really thinks a great deal of you, but the old antagonism came back as soon as we showed signs of being fond of each other — silly way to put it [illegible] darling, [illegible] you & I — but there it was, & I crept back into my shell once more & then of course when we decided to get married I had "sprung" it on them & Mother didn't like that. Added to that is the fact that she considers herself responsible for bringing us together — remember when

the first night when Mother & I went to see you at the flat. If it is so I'll never be able to thank her enough.
One thing I'm quite sure of is that she'll forget all about it in time, but I'm not quite so sure that she'll start to forget about it until I come home. When we've been together for some time & she can see that we're happy she'll be alright, but the fact that I'll be coming home to you instead of to her might keep things at a standstill for the time being. I hope I'm wrong my Margaret but I'm telling you all this, as it may help you to see how it's come about. I only hope that it doesn't make {too much difference darling as I'd very much like to think that you & Mother get on very well together — perhaps more for Mother's sake than for yours as I think I would be a big help to her if it were so, & I know that anything to help her would be worthwhile. She missing her family quite a lot, but of course she can't expect
