My dearest Mama,

I cannot go to sleep until I have written a few lines to you. Your note came this morning, I was very much surprised at the news and very sorry to think that poor Kate had such a dreadful time. What an anxious time you must have had!! I am so thankful that you & Papa were with her, I do not believe that she could have been saved if she had not had your kindness & love. Poor George too I suppose he thought the train did not go half fast enough in his anxiety to get home.

I see by today’s paper that the 3d son of the late Mr Groves is dead only 24 years of age. More sorrow for poor Rose, I must write to her, her brother died last Sunday. I shall send Kate’s parcel at the end of the week if I can. But I shall be very busy at school to-morrow on account of the rolls which I ought to have done to-day but I did not care to spoil my holiday. Tell Papa I hope he will not neglect getting advice about himself.

Mrs Dunbar went to town this morning she is going to spend 10 days at Mrs [?Bolam’s].

I hope you will not get ill with all this worry & work; I am sure I don’t know what I should have done if I had guessed the trouble you were in last Saturday. Now my own dear Mother I must say good night. Love to Kate & yourself also Papa & George.

Believe me

Your ever affecate Daughter Fanny
