My dear Aunt Sarah

It is a very long time since we had any news from Portarlington, I don’t quite know whose fault it is, but it is time some one broke the long silence.

Cousin Gerald seems to be gifted with a very wonderful imagination, perhaps it is kind of him to paint things in the brightest colours, it is better than abusing his relations, but if we were growing rich, it would be hardly necessary for us to remain for 4½ years, broiling in the heat & being devoured by mosquitoes, without a change South, of course there are some advantages through living here, but it is hardly “a heaven on earth”.

Have you heard Aunty of the arrival of a young baby Hall? Georgie had a son on the 5th of Nov. Aunt Dora wrote about it with much apparent pride, she said Georgie was very well & the child a fine healthy one.

Cousin Ernest Hall & Reg Hester are taking a trip to the Eastern States, some time next month, so you will be pretty sure to see them, as long as they get your address from us. Reg is the tallest representative of the family.

Mother & I were going up to stay with cousin Tillie at Woodbrook station, but Mother was not well enough when the time came, so Tillie is coming down for a change, she is very comfortable up there & her brother is managing the place for Aubrey.

The birth of Georgie’s baby reminded us that it was your birthday, may I wish you many happy returns.

We have had about a month’s holiday spent between Dr Maunsell’s in Roebourne & Woodbrook station with the Churches, it was rather hot for travelling, but it is a place worth seeing, such a lovely green lawn & garden flowers still blooming, they are you know an uncommon sight in the North West.

With love from Mother & self to you & cousin Fannie & Robert

Your affectionate niece

Joy M Hall
