My dear Murray,

It is two weeks since I last wrote to you & as Margaret will have told you of Garrick's success in the carnival, there is no need for me to go into detail. We were all very thrilled at his results, two Championships & two State records, & then 3rd place in the other he entered, the winner V. Oliver is 18 months older than Garrick, & beat him by 3 feet. Garrick had already won the 110 yds Freestyle under 14 yrs, & Oliver had not raced. Garrick is 13 yrs & 4 months, so it was most —ditable[?]  wasn't it? There is another at Claremont on 12th which Garrick does not expect to gain anything by, but on 26th he should do well again. He swan 440 yds in competition on 31st too much really, but he has grown & developed very much this last year, if you do not soon appear in our midst, he will be in long trousers. Jean is keeping him in shorts [illegible]  the last six months at all events, unless he busts out of them so you really should not have to meet a grown up nephew, all the other members of the family are well, & busy, some more so than others, busy I mean. Margaret has been in the throes of spring cleaning de lux. The girls & Stuart & I had lunch with her last Friday, a very enjoyable family one it would have been perfect had you been with us, dear. Then Margaret took us home, & I gave her the little coolgardie [illegible]  the one which Mr Bowen gave me & you reconditioned, it will be useful to her when extras arrive unexpected. I told her that I had given it to you, which I did long ago. Yesterday was a very sad day, 5th especially so, but there are many that bring back vivid memories very happy beautiful memories dear. They have not yet put the monument on the garden. They are very short of staff & material, but it should be completed in about a month's time. I think I told you that uncle Charlie had sent me a good cheque towards the expenses of it Cont.

They are all well in Melb, but Auntie May has had trouble with her hand for some time had it in plaster & now has a splint on it Charlie wrote, they do not seem to get at the seat of the trouble, altho' they have had it X rayed & massage perhaps too much, being her right hand, has meant no letters from her, which I regret. She was always such a good correspondent. Rae is very busy indeed, & her letters are not so regular now, I suppose she realises too that I know she is safe, & there is not the same need. I am hoping to get a letter from her tomorrow. Pat is in Adelaide but hopes to get over to Rae for leave, which they are expecting to have together. It was too bad after being apart for so long, that Pat should be trasferred so soon after Rae's arrival, but they did have some time together. Rae & some of the girls have a flat not very far from Louie, & she is able to go there sometimes, all the ?? seems to be going on as usual, Milton should very soon be back, after his course in officers' school in Q'land. Bob is still there & of course very elated at Garrick's success. Beryl Briggs was at Margaret's for tea last week, when I was there, just the 3 of us, Judith had gone to Con's for a couple of days, Beryll's a very nice lass, Owen is where Rae was, she had some snaps of him, he looked ?? thin, I would not have known him. We are going to Jean's on Thursday for lunch, she is "spotting" on Tuesday, has joined the Air Observers, Adele ?? commenced school last week & is in Upper First Standard, she will not be 7 yrs until middle of May, & Stuart starts "kinder" tomorrow mornings only, Jim has two weeks leave, & will go to the country for a week, & paint the house (in parts) & do any odd jobs. The ?? are ripening but not as many as usual. Now darling I must away with all my love, hope you have recd my ?? ?? Mother
