Preserving the past: Heritage Minister Jim McGinty presents Margaret Wilson with a painting of her grandfather's house.
Thanks for the memories
A descendant of one of WA's pioneering families was recognised this week for her work in documenting her family's history.
Margaret Wilson's grandfather, William Shakespeare Hall, founded the North-West coastal town of Cossack, near Roebourne.
This week, Heritage Minister Jim McGinty presented her with a painting of her grandfather's house — the first in Cossack — and a plaque.
"It is through the work of people like Margaret that future West Australians will be able to learn of the courage and achievements of the state's pioneers," Mr McGinty said at the presentation.
He said that Mrs Wilson had made an outstanding contribution to documenting the history of Cossack.
In 1863, Mrs Wilson's grandfather, established Andover station near Roebourne before becoming one of Cossack's most prominent citizens.
Mrs Wilson, 76, has donated nearly 120 photographs and artefacts to the Cossack Museum.
