Inscription: "Linesman Tonkin at one end of the 200 miles of telegraph line under his care. Note his old motor tyres wired on to the wheels."
Tonkin retired in 1936: "On the occasion of his retirement, which took place last Saturday, members of the local postal staff made a presentation to Mr. H. Tonkin, who has been stationed at Carnarvon for a number of years past, as linesman. Mr. Tonkin had completed over 25 years service with the Department."[1]
