My dear Murray

Yesterday the 3 girls came to dinner, & Helen & John Solly were both here also. But I missed all of my own absent loved ones very much. It was not at all the same, under these [illegible]  conditions. The phone was ringing constantly with good wishes, a telegram from Aunt Ray, & one from Joan. Letters from Gordon, Eva, & Charlie, earlier in the week, and yesterday morning one from Rae, right on the day. The girls brought beautiful flowers, & Joan sent a bouquet, daffodils & smoke bush. [illegible]  Margaret, who insisted on making the sweets for dinner, trifle & a baked rhubarb with custard & meringue, very nice. She gave me a book, 'Behold new Holland', and Jean brought 2 very nice twels, & a block of choc, & a small [illegible]  dish from Garrick. Adele is
